KENYA: COMPETENCE BASED CURRICULUM (CBC) FACES TOUGH TIMES

KENYA: COMPETENCE BASED CURRICULUM (CBC) REVIEW FACES TOUGH TIMES.

The competence Based Curriculum Model.

The Kenya National Union Of Teachers (KNUT) Secretary General Collins Oyuu brought CBC review to a standstill in his address during the 94th edition national music festival competition that was held in Kisumu county.

Mr. Oyuu called upon the ministry of education to include KNUT in the task force that has been mandated to review the curriculum, he insisted that teachers are key engineers in the implementation of the curriculum and therefore things should not just be imposed on them without their knowledge but at least what they have participated in.

He also mentioned of Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) and Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development to be key stakeholders in the CBC review taskforce.

However, the secretary general of KNUT cautioned utterances of some senior most politician who are mudslinging teachers. In this, he mentioned the uncouth verbal diarrhoea of one famous politician from Western Kenya who said the number of chickens in his village was reducing because teachers are coercing pupils to carry them to school for teachers to enjoy as meals.

Mr. Oyuu was was elaborate enough that, the chicken was to be used specifically for Home science practicals which to them is basically a sect of implementing the curriculum and they should not be questioned otherwise.

The KNUT boss further advised that CBC should not be abolished but rather fill loopholes where they can be identified and pump necessary resources to stir the curriculum to higher desirable standards.
