We, the people of Ward A1, Ikorodu Lagos , reject in its entirety the flawed and illegitimate electoral process conducted in our Ward A1.

It is on record that:

No INEC official from the headquarters or any senior staff from the head office was present on ground. Yet the process was allowed to proceed.

During the exercise, party agents were instructed to produce sheets of paper to manually record results, a clear deviation from standard procedure.

The agent representing *Hon. Abdulkareem Olugbenga Shittu* refused to comply, rightly noting that no official agent of the aspirant was physically present.

Counting was abruptly stopped midway while *Hon. Shittu’s votes* were being tallied.

Officials then attempted to announce results without the consent or participation of the affected agent, coordinators, and other stakeholders.

This is not an election, It is a premeditated subversion of the democratic will of the people.

We demand:

Immediate intervention by INEC headquarters and the Presidency.

Full investigation into the absence of proper INEC officials and the irregularities observed.

Nullification of the entire process in Ward A1 due to fundamental breaches.

Conduct of a fresh, transparent, and credible election with full INEC oversight and all stakeholders present.

Ward A1 will not accept any imposed outcome. Our mandate must be respected!

We, the residents and stakeholders of Ward A1, strongly reject the sham process that took place during the recent election exercise in our Ward.

What was supposed to be a free and fair democratic process turned into a charade. Voting was abruptly halted in the middle of counting without any cogent reason. The results were neither announced nor properly collated. Agents and canvassers were mysteriously absent or denied the opportunity to effectively participate, leaving no verifiable records of the votes cast.

This is not democracy. This is a deliberate attempt to subvert the will of the people.

We demand:

Immediate investigation by INEC and the relevant authorities into the happenings in Ward A1.

Full disclosure of all records and footage from the exercise.

Cancellation of the flawed process and conduct of a fresh, transparent election in Ward A1.

The people of Ward A1 will no longer tolerate imposition and electoral fraud. Our votes must count!

The Actual Sequence For Ikorodu:

 

The actual sequence for Ikorodu:

Dabiri-Erewa* held the Ikorodu seat for *12 years* — from 2003 to 2015. She left in 2015 when she was appointed SSA to the President on Diaspora Affairs, later becoming Chairman/CEO of NiDCOM.

*Babajimi Benson* took over in *2015* and is currently serving his *third term*. He was first elected in 2015, re-elected in 2019, and again in 2023. If he runs and wins in 2027, that would be a *fourth term*, taking him to 16 consecutive years.

So it’s *27 years total* so far between the two of them, 12 years for Abike [2003-2015] + 12 years for Jimi so far [2015-2027 if he completes this term].

*Ikorodu needs democratic rotation:*

In a system with regular turnover, you’d expect 3 different representatives over a 24-27 year span, with a 4th person coming in now. The concern being raised locally is exactly that — youth groups and community leaders are arguing that 16 years shuts out new entrants and limits broader participation. Supporters counter that his track record on infrastructure, education, and empowerment justifies continuity.

*Why this is a recurring debate in Ikorodu:*

Nigeria has no constitutional term limit for lawmakers at the federal level. So it comes down to party primaries and voter choice. When one person dominates for decades, it often reflects both party structure and the challenge of mounting a competitive challenge against an incumbent with established networks and constituency projects.

Ikorodu should adopt an informal zoning/rotation agreement among stakeholders, if we truly love ikorodu and want ikorodu to move forward.
