The decision was a sequel to the terror alert released by the United States government and the United Kingdom (UK), advising their citizens against travelling to Abuja.
Multinational construction company, Julius Berger, has closed down its operations in Nigeria's Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The decision was a sequel to the terror alert released by the United States government and the United Kingdom (UK), advising their citizens against travelling to Abuja.
It has been reported that the United States Embassy in Nigeria had on Sunday issued a security alert on the elevated risk of terror attacks in Abuja.
It subsequently, urged citizens who are staying in Abuja to find a way to leave the city and those intending to come to Abuja to shelve the plan.
On Wednesday, in compliance with the directive, Jabi Lake Mall shut down its operations in Abuja.
The Mall in a statement published on its Instagram page @jabilakemallnigeria, opined that the mall was committed to safeguarding the life of its staff and customers.
The Mall stated, “Jabi Lake Mall will be closed today, Thursday, 27 October 2022. This decision has been taken in the overall interest of the safety of all staff and customers of the mall.
“Centre Management is committed to minimising any disruptions; however, the safety of our staff and shoppers remains our highest priority.
“Management is constantly reviewing the security situation in consultation with relevant security authorities and will inform you when the mall will be re-opened.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and hope to provide you with a quality shopping experience soon.”
However, Julius Berger is now the second company to take the decision, despite the Federal Government downplaying the threat, saying that the country is safe.
In a statement sighted by Ilufoye Noah's Blog on Saturday, signed by the company’s Managing Director and Corporate Security Manager, Engr. Lars Bichter and Poul Nielsen respectively, the company advised its staff to avoid public premises during the weekend.
The statement stated; “In response to the ongoing security concern within the FCT and Central Abuja.
“It is advised to avoid all public events within the FCT environment, including supermarkets, restaurants, hotels, bars, clubs and other areas where many meet. This advice is applicable from, 28.10.2022 in the evening until Monday, 31.10.2022 in the morning.
“It remains possible to move to other JBN work or residential locations throughout the weekend. Your safety is our primary concern.”
When contacted, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Josephine Adeh, said; “I don’t know anything about it.”
