The Federal Government has officially announced that Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, will be designated as public holidays in honor of this year's Eid-el-Kabir festivities.
The statement revealing this decision was publicized by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, and was formalized through an official communication signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani.
This proclamation by the government emphasizes the significant spiritual value attached to the Islamic event not only within Nigeria but also among Muslims worldwide.
Tunji-Ojo conveyed his warm felicitations to Muslim adherents both within the country and in the global diaspora, characterizing Eid-ul-Adha as a period that embodies principles of sacrifice, obedience, and compassion.
He encouraged all Nigerians to utilize this occasion for prayers aimed at fostering national tranquility, fortification, and progress.
"The Federal Government calls upon all citizens to utilize this time for supplication and contemplation, seeking divine assistance for the nation as it strives to achieve peace, security, and prosperity for all its inhabitants," as articulated in the statement.
Moreover, the minister made a plea to the populace to uphold virtues of harmony, peaceful cohabitation, and fraternity throughout the duration of the festivities.
He also extended his heartfelt wishes to Muslims across the nation for a serene and gratifying observance of Eid-ul-Adha.
