Abdulrasheed Bawa, the former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has been released, according to confirmation from the Department of State Services (DSS).
In a brief statement, the DSS verified Bawa's release. Peter Afunanya, the director of public relations and strategic communications, signed the statement.
Remember that the DSS freed the former head of the EFCC on Wednesday night after he had been detained without being given a chance to stand trial since June 14, 2023.
Bawa's suspension was announced by Willie Bassey, Director of Information at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. According to Bassey, the anti-graft agency head was placed on leave due to serious accusations of abusing his position.
Bawa once faced accusations from Bello Matawalle, a former Zamfara State governor and Minister of State for Defence, that he was seeking a $2 million bribe. Bawa refuted these claims. According to Bassey, the suspension was necessary to enable a thorough inquiry into his actions during his tenure in office.
