Alcohol Ban In Niger State, Nigeria

Suleja and eight other local government districts in the state will no longer be able to sell or consume alcohol, according to proposals released by the Niger State Government.

The restriction would take effect on January 1, 2024, according to a statement released on Monday and signed by board secretary Ibrahim Muhammad Bonu.

The statement also disclosed that relocation letters would be delivered to some beer outlets in the state capital of Minna, directing them to relocate outside the city and within an eight-kilometer radius of the state post office.

Mr. Bonu stated that Suleja is one of the nine local government districts that are on the first schedule of the restricted regions, and he called on all vendors to follow the applicable current laws that established the board.

He thus issued a warning to the board's employees, threatening to take legal action against them if they engaged in illicit activities or asked beer parlour owners for any kind of reward.

"We are urging all vendors to adhere to the pertinent current laws establishing the board," he declared.

Suleja is one of the nine local government areas that were placed on the first schedule of the prohibited areas because the law establishing the board has the mandate to regulate the activities of all spirits vendors in the state. As a result, the board will enforce strict adherence to the law.
