Alcohol Ban In Niger State, Nigeria

Suleja and eight other local government districts in the state will no longer be able to sell or consume alcohol, according to proposals released by the Niger State Government.

The restriction would take effect on January 1, 2024, according to a statement released on Monday and signed by board secretary Ibrahim Muhammad Bonu.

The statement also disclosed that relocation letters would be delivered to some beer outlets in the state capital of Minna, directing them to relocate outside the city and within an eight-kilometer radius of the state post office.

Mr. Bonu stated that Suleja is one of the nine local government districts that are on the first schedule of the restricted regions, and he called on all vendors to follow the applicable current laws that established the board.

He thus issued a warning to the board's employees, threatening to take legal action against them if they engaged in illicit activities or asked beer parlour owners for any kind of reward.

"We are urging all vendors to adhere to the pertinent current laws establishing the board," he declared.

Suleja is one of the nine local government areas that were placed on the first schedule of the prohibited areas because the law establishing the board has the mandate to regulate the activities of all spirits vendors in the state. As a result, the board will enforce strict adherence to the law.

Were You Set Free To Go Crazy Once More? - Miyetti Allah Excites Igboho on Sunday

Abdullahi Bello Bodejo, the National President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, responded to Sunday Igboho's call for Fulani herders to leave Yoruba land.
Bodejo claimed that everyone in Nigeria has the freedom to reside wherever in the nation and follow their legal goals under the country's constitution.
The leader of Miyetti Allah revealed this on Friday, claiming that some individuals were attempting to inflame the situation by using Igboho.
have been disregarded, but as a Nigerian, he ought to be aware that his country's constitution guarantees everyone the freedom to reside anywhere in Nigeria.
On the other hand, the security services are meant to detain and prosecute that individual should he commit any crimes.

"Sunday Ighoho is acting strangely; I'm not sure why; he aspires to be a Yoruba hero. He ought to acknowledge that the man in office right now is a Yoruba. The elders of the Yoruba are highly intelligent, and they would not behave in the manner that Igboho is.
I demand that the president order Ighoho to order by using the security agencies. There, the Fulani have lost a great deal of people and property."

Exclusive: In just three months, Osun State Governor Adeleke spends N6 billion running his office, N2 billion on meals, and N welfare packages.

The figure is different from the N209 million paid on personal expenses in the governor's office, according to official documents.

According to a copy of the state budget performance report, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke spent more than N6 billion running the "Office of the Governor" in just three months.

The figure is different from the N209 million paid on personal expenses in the governor's office, according to official documents.

All of these were included in the Osun State budget performance report for the third quarter of 2023, which was available on the state website along with the income and expense statements for the July–September 2023 period.

The third quarter (2023) budget performance report (July–September) is included in this document. According to the report available on the state website, it is created on a quarterly basis and published within four weeks, or 28 days, following the conclusion of each quarter.

When preparing the budget for Fiscal Year 2023, the Ministry of Economic Planning, Budget and Development created a thorough Revenue and Expenditure Framework. As approved by the Osun State House of Assembly, the FY 2023 budget will be implemented starting on January 1st, 2023, and ending on December 31st, 2023.

The State House of Assembly passed the revised budget on August 15, 2023, and Governor His Excellency, Senator Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke, endorsed it. A new budget is required to enable the State Government to undertake initiatives that will boost the State's economy.

Before posting online, the Budget Implementation Committee evaluates the budget performance on a quarterly basis. Nonetheless, consistent work is needed on the part of the Ministry of Economic Planning, Budget, and Development to guarantee enhancements in the State's Public Financial and Resource Management operations.

The Approved Budget Appropriation (2023 Original Budget), the 2023 Revised Budget, the Actual Spending for the Third Quarter (Q3), the Cumulative Spending for the Year to Date, and the Balances against each of the Revenue and Expense Appropriations are all included in this report. The revised budget is broken down by organisational unit and covers each of the core economic classification of expenditures (Persons, Overheads, Capital, and Others).

In relation to the 2023 updated forecasts, the budget performance for the third quarter (Q3) shows the actual inflow and outflow of resources in the state as of the end of the third quarter of 2023.

The study claims that in just three months, Adeleke's office alone spent an incredible N6,011,614,620.35. During the same time frame, the state House of Assembly also spent more than N800 million.

The Osun government added that it has given its officials welfare benefits and paid more than N2 billion for meals and refreshments.

According to the breakdown, N456,401,074.13 was used for meals and refreshments, and N1,759,466,120.21 was spent on assistance packages.

The government also stated in the paper that an additional N400 million was spent on public relations and advertising.

At last, a Nigerian refinery starts up and produces 600 million litres of fuel.

The WalterSmith Modular Refinery has been commended by Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), for satisfying the nation's energy needs. The Ohaji/Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State's refinery, situated in Ibigwe, generates 600 million litres of various products.
After touring the facility with Simbi Wabote, the executive secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), Lokpobiri spoke to journalists and expressed her happiness with WalterSmith.
The minister further stated that the quickest solution to Nigeria's energy issues is through modular refineries. For additional information,
"The refineries that are state-owned are still under rehabilitation. As the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, it is my responsibility to ensure that there is sufficient supply of petroleum products pending the resumption of refining activities in the nation’s refineries. “I take charge of the programme to supervise the rehabilitation of our state-owned refineries. That is why I have gone round all the refineries in Port Harcourt, the refinery in Warri and the refinery in Kaduna. You know the shortest way to addressing our energy problem is the modular refineries."
“That is why the executive secretary of the Nigerian Content Development Board, said there was the need for us to visit the WalterSmith and that is why I am here today to see things for myself. I am sure anybody that enters here will be very proud of what we accomplished.
“I am happy to be here to see what is going on and to encourage WalterSmith; Yes it is possible we can solve our energy problems in this country. "The government will continue to support owners of Modular refineries but I want to say that it is not enough for us to give money. We need to identify those who have proven record of success. “Some people will take the money and divert it, but here we are physically seeing one that is functional and we have also see the expansion of what is going on. We will do whatever we can to support WalterSmith ."
“We have gone round and you can see that the refinery is working. We are very happy it is successful. Usually, it is not every investment that you participate in that comes out successful.”

Former EFCC Boss Bawa Still In DSS Custody

According to sources, Abdulrasheed Bawa, the former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has handed over more than N580 million to Nigeria's secret police.

According to sources in the Department of State Services (DSS), which has had Bawa in custody since June, the former anti-corruption boss has paid back more than N580 million that was fraudulently obtained when he was in charge of the organisation.

This occurs while the DSS is under pressure to either free Bawa or accuse him of the crimes that the secret police's investigation has determined he committed.

Following "weighty allegations of abuse of office levelled against him," President Bola Tinubu removed Bawa from his position as chairman of the EFCC indefinitely in June "to allow for proper investigation into his conduct while in office."

Bawa was detained by the DSS on June 14 hours after the president had suspended him, and he has stayed there ever since.

Because Bawa was being held by the DSS without being charged properly, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) threatened to challenge President Tinubu's administration in August.

Additionally, on Wednesday, Babachir Lawal, a former secretary to the government of the federation, criticised President Tinubu's administration for continuing to hold Bawa and Godwin Emefiele, a former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, without charge or trial.

As it is also unacceptable that political parties are used to intimidate and harass people for expressing their opinions in public, Lawal said in his statement that it is indefensible to keep the EFCC Chairman and the CBN Governor in custody for lengthy periods of time without or before trial.

One of the sources said Over N580 million has been recovered from the imprisoned former chairman of the anti-graft agency, EFCC.

Bawa was reportedly transferred from the secret police's main office to a private facility in June, in order to have complete control over him after he refused to write any statements while being held.

It was discovered that Bawa refused to record any comments while being held in detention because he informed investigators that the DSS had no authority to hold him without charges.

An important security source had claimed, "They've transferred Bawa from DSS headquarters to one of their private facilities to have entire control over him after he refused to write statements asked from him.

The EFCC chairman in custody has declined to make comments and told the DSS that they have no jurisdiction to hold him without grounds for doing so.

He was also accused of protecting former governor of Zamfara, Abdulaziz Yari, while assisting him in pursuing his rivals.

He has steadfastly refused to work with DSS investigators thus far after his detention, according to another high source.

On Nigeria's 63rd Independence Day, Tinubu addresses the minimum wage, the judiciary, the CBN, and other issues.

The Nigerian leader praised the nation's founding fathers, mothers, and previous heroes in his speech that was televised across the country on Sunday morning. He claimed that it was because of their liberation fights that modern Nigeria exists today.

Tinubu said that for the following six months, the typical low-grade worker would receive an additional N25,000 per month while remaining upbeat about a brighter Nigeria.

He said that in order to raise the federal minimum wage without unjustified inflation, his administration is implementing a provisional wage increment.

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), which he called "the den of malfeasance," will be thoroughly cleaned out, the Nigerian leader promised, adding that his special investigator will soon deliver his findings on past errors and how to avoid repeating the same mistakes.

In addition to thanking the nation's labour unions and members of vibrant civil society organisations for their commitment to Nigerian democracy, Tinubu praised the judiciary, calling it as a pillar of democracy and fairness.

Even though they could disagree with the administration, he said, he values their counsel and suggestions. However, Tinubu made no mention of the Organised Labor's scheduled Wednesday, October 3 start to an extended strike.

“Dear Compatriots,

It is my unique honour to address you on this day, the 63rd anniversary of our nation’s independence, both as the President of our dear country and, simply, as a fellow Nigerian.

On this solemn yet hopeful day, let us commend our founding fathers and mothers. Without them, there would be no modern Nigeria. From the fading embers of colonialism, their activism, dedication and leadership gave life to the belief in Nigeria as a sovereign and independent nation.

Let us, at this very moment, affirm that, as Nigerians, we are all endowed with the sacred rights and individual gifts that God has bestowed on us as a nation and as human beings. No one is greater or lesser than the other. The triumphs that Nigeria has achieved shall define us.

The travails we have endured shall strengthen us. And no other nation or power on this earth shall keep us from our rightful place and destiny. This nation belongs to you, dear people. Love and cherish it as your very own.

Nigeria is remarkable in its formation and essential character. We are a broad and dynamic blend of ethnic groups, religions, traditions and cultures. Yet, our bonds are intangible yet strong, invisible yet universal.

We are joined by a common thirst for peace and progress, by the common dream of prosperity and harmony and by the unifying ideals of tolerance and justice.

Forging a nation based on the fair application of these noble principles to a diverse population has been a task of significant blessing but also a serial challenge.

Some people have said an independent Nigeria should never have come into existence. Some have said that our country would be torn apart. They are forever mistaken. Here, our nation stands, and here we shall remain.

This year, we passed a significant milestone in our journey to a better Nigeria. By democratically electing a 7th consecutive civilian government, Nigeria has proven that commitment to democracy and the rule of law remains our guiding light.

At my inauguration, I made important promises about how I would govern this great nation. Among those promises were pledges to reshape and modernize our economy and to secure the lives, liberty and property of the people.

I said that bold reforms were necessary to place our nation on the path of prosperity and growth. On that occasion, I announced the end of the fuel subsidy. I am attuned to the hardships that have come. I have a heart that feels and eyes that see. I wish to explain to you why we must endure this trying moment.

Those who sought to perpetuate the fuel subsidy and broken foreign exchange policies are people who would build their family mansion in the middle of a swamp.

I am different. I am not a man to erect our national home on a foundation of mud. To endure, our home must be constructed on safe and pleasant ground.

Reform may be painful, but it is what greatness and the future require. We now carry the costs of reaching a future in Nigeria where the abundance and fruits of the nation are fairly shared among all, not hoarded by a select and greedy few. A Nigeria where hunger, poverty and hardship are pushed into the shadows of an ever-fading past.

There is no joy in seeing the people of this nation shoulder burdens that should have been shed years ago. I wish today’s difficulties did not exist. But we must endure if we are to reach the good side of our future.

My government is doing all that it can to ease the load. I will now outline the path we are taking to relieve the stress on our families and households.

We have embarked on several public sector reforms to stabilize the economy, direct fiscal and monetary policy to fight inflation, encourage production, ensure the security of lives and property and lend more support to the poor and the vulnerable.

Based on our talks with labour, business and other stakeholders, we are introducing a provisional wage increment to enhance the federal minimum wage without causing undue inflation. For the next six months, the average low-grade worker shall receive an additional Twenty-Five Thousand naira per month.

To ensure better grassroots development, we set up an Infrastructure Support Fund for states to invest in critical areas. States have already received funds to provide relief packages against the impact of rising food and other prices.

Making the economy more robust by lowering transport costs will be key. In this regard, we have opened a new chapter in public transportation through the deployment of cheaper, safer Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses across the nation. These buses will operate at a fraction of current fuel prices, positively affecting transport fares.

New CNG conversion kits will start coming in very soon as all hands are on deck to fast track the usually lengthy procurement process. We are also setting up training facilities and workshops across the nation to train and provide new opportunities for transport operators and entrepreneurs.

This is a groundbreaking moment where, as a nation, we embrace more efficient means to power our economy. In making this change, we also make history.

I pledged a thorough housecleaning of the den of malfeasance the CBN had become. That housecleaning is well underway. A new leadership for the Central Bank has been constituted. Also, my special investigator will soon present his findings on past lapses and how to prevent similar reoccurrences. Henceforth, monetary policy shall be for the benefit of all and not the exclusive province of the powerful and wealthy.

Wise tax policy is essential to economic fairness and development. I have inaugurated a Committee on Tax Reforms to improve the efficiency of tax administration in the country and address fiscal policies that are unfair or hinder the business environment and slow our growth.

To boost employment and urban incomes, we are providing investment funding for enterprises with great potential. Similarly, we are increasing investment in micro, small and medium-sized enterprises.

Commencing this month, the social safety net is being extended through the expansion of cash transfer programs to an additional 15 million vulnerable households.

My administration shall always accord the highest priority to the safety of the people. Inter-Service collaboration and intelligence sharing have been enhanced. Our Service Chiefs have been tasked with the vital responsibility of rebuilding the capacities of our security services.

Here, I salute and commend our gallant security forces for keeping us safe and securing our territorial integrity. Many have paid the ultimate sacrifice. We remember them today and their families. We shall equip our forces with the ways and means needed to perform their urgent task on behalf of the people, We shall continue to make key appointments in line with the provisions of the Constitution and with fairness toward all. Women, Youth and the physically challenged shall continue to be given due regard in these appointments.

May I take this opportunity to congratulate the National Assembly for its role in the quick take-off of this administration through the performance of its constitutional duties of confirmation and oversight.

I similarly congratulate the judiciary as a pillar of democracy and fairness.

I also thank members of our dynamic civil society organizations and labour unions for their dedication to Nigerian democracy. We may not always agree but I value your advice and recommendations. You are my brothers and sisters and you have my due respect.

Fellow compatriots, the journey ahead will not be navigated by fear or hatred. We can only achieve a better Nigeria through courage, compassion and commitment as one indivisible unit.

I promise that I shall remain committed and serve faithfully. I also invite all to join this enterprise to remake our beloved nation into its better self. We can do it. We must do it. We shall do it.!!!

I wish you all a happy 63rd Independence AnniversaryThank you for listening. May God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”

Fire Outbreak in TCN

On Thursday night the 14 of September 2023, there was an incident involving fire at the Transmission Company of Nigeria transmission substation in Birnin-Kebbi, Kebbi State.

The 330 kilovolt (kV) plant was reportedly consumed by the inferno, while the immediate cause is yet unknown.

Nafiu Abubakar, a spokesman for the Kebbi State Police Command, told Channels Television on Friday that the incident was true.

We recommended our correspondent to the TCN for more information on the fire's potential causes because we lacked details about the incident at the time.

TCN, however, was not able to be reached.

BREAKING: A nationwide blackout results from an electrical grid failure

Nigeria is currently in a state of widespread darkness as a result of the failure of the national grid.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), which is based in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, manages the grid system.

The grid was down to a pitiful 273 megawatts of electricity at the early hours of Thursday, according to checks, which came from two of the more than 27 electricity generation facilities.

It was only a week ago that TCN celebrated 400 shaky days of grid stability.

Guardian was informed by a number of Distribution Companies (DisCos) that the grid fell down at 00:41 AM and that the majority of their feeds are not working.

On the grid as of 4:00 a.m. on Thursday were five producing units. Ibom Power had 32.90MW, Afam VI had 0.70MW, Dadinkowa was producing 0.00MW, Jebba had 240MW, and Olorunsogo had no generation at all but was connected to the grid.

The entire power available on the grid at 1 AM was 35 MW, suggesting that the nation had completely collapsed.

Nigerian Forces in Guinea-Bissau were visited by President Tinubu

On Saturday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu paid a visit to the Nigerian contingent that is part of the ECOWAS Stabilization Force stationed in the nation.

Remember that the President traveled to Bissau, the capital of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, for the 63rd Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). Politics Nigeria had already reported on this.

The President met with Nigerian soldiers upon his arrival and thanked them for their commitment to serving Nigeria and their host nation, as well as their commander, General Al-Hassan Grema.

Nigeria, he continued, would keep promoting democracy throughout the world and in West Africa.

His remarks:

“I am here to show solidarity with you. I want to assure you we are committed to support peace and democracy not only in West Africa but around the world.

“Nigeria is a giant that has made its mark in Sierra Leone and Liberia and other places. We count on your support for the defence of constitutional order. I heard your allowances have been paid up to date. Nothing else should make you angry. We will continue to build a virile force.

“We are proud of you. Proud of your loyalty. Nigeria depends on you. There will be peace and progress in our country,”

Brigadier General Grema thanked President Tinubu on behalf of the military for becoming the first Commander-in-Chief in Nigerian history to visit his troops abroad.

The Nigerian president will visit Guinea-Bissau for a summit side event, as well as bilateral discussions and other activities.

Tinubu denies rumours of Surgery, speaks on French Trip

After spending approximately a month in Paris, France, the country's newly elected president, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, arrived back on Monday night.

In the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in Abuja, when his jet landed, he was met by a huge crowd of ecstatic friends and fans.

Together with his wife, senator Remi Tinubu, and son, Seyi Tinubu, the former governor of Lagos was present.

Vice President-elect Kashim Shettima, Speaker of the House of Representatives Femi Gbajabiamila, former governors of Borno State Ali Modu Sheriff, and Simon Lalong (Plateau) were all there at the airport to welcome him.

Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, the former head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Senator Abubakar Kyari, the Deputy National Chairman of the APC for the South, Barrister Emma Enekwu, and Dr. Betta Edu, the National Woman Leader, were all present at the airport.

Additionally present were Senators Barau Jibril, Adeola Olamilekan Yahyi, Opeyemi Bamidele, Dayo Adeyeye, Sabi Abdullahi, and Adelere Oriolowo, as well as Hon. James Faleke, Babajimi Benson, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, and the Secretary of the recently disbanded Presidential Campaign Council.

I'm glad to be back," the President-elect remarked as he addressed the audience at the airport. I've had a nap, and I feel relaxed and prepared for the work ahead.

“Forget about what the rumour mill may have told you. I’m strong, very strong.”

When questioned about his goals for the nation, he stated that he had been planning and consulting in order to assemble a solid team so he could get started right away after taking office on May 29.

After a busy campaign and election season, the President-elect left the country on March 21 for a vacation in Paris.

Soyinka challenge Datti to a Debate

The Labour Party's (LP) vice presidential candidate Datti Baba-Ahmed has accepted Wole Soyinka's challenge to a live debate on national television.

In an interview with Channels TV on March 22, Datti claimed that despite the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declaring Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the election's victor, the country still lacked a president-elect.

The APC nominee "has not met criteria of the law," according to the LP vice presidential candidate, thus if sworn into office, Tinubu will be in charge of an unlawful government.

Political stakeholders criticized the interview, and the TV station was fined N5 million as a result.

Soyinka responded in an interview with Arise TV on Wednesday, calling the comments a "kind of do-or-die attitude and provocation" that runs against to democratic principles.

He continued, saying it was unacceptable that the LP vice-presidential candidate tried to "dictate to the supreme arbitrator of the nation."

However, the "Obidients," notably on social media platforms, have criticized and harassed Soyinka as a result of his statement.

The Nobel laureate responded by criticizing the penalties imposed on Channels Television for airing the "incisive interview" with Labour Party vice presidential candidate in a statement released on Friday.

Soyinka stated that he was ready to debate Datti or any of his nominees "on this precise bone of dispute - one-on-one - without the foul intrusion of media trolls, and with the same interviewer as mediator" on the platform.

"May I, by the way, take this opportunity to protest the sanctions imposed on CHANNELS Television which anchored the performance of the LP candidate?" he said. As I've already mentioned, I closely followed the program and observed the interviewer's heroic efforts to secure a fair hearing. I am unable to see how the station could be blamed, except from a propensity towards injustice.

“To sustain that penalty is to give joy to others who turn Internet into a soakaway for their rancid emissions, yet feel that others should be silenced. If CHANNELS feels up to it, I offer myself willing to engage Mr. Datti – or any nominee of his – on its platform on this very bone of contention – one-on-one – without the malodorous intervention of media trolls, and with the same interviewer as mediator.

That should be taken as a serious offer.  “Project NIGERIA, I must confess, has become near terminally soul-searing. Do I still believe in it? I am no longer certain but – first we must rid ourselves of the tyranny of the ignorant and the opportunism of time-servers. In any case, there is not much else to engage one on a foundation of ownership stakes.

“There is of course, always the possibility of a Revolution, with a clarity of purpose and acceptance of all attendant risks, including costly errors.

Revolutions are not however based on the impetus of speculative power entitlement.
“No matter, until that moment, the structures that ensure just and equitable cohabitation must be protected from partisan appropriation – be it from material inducement, fake news, or verbal terrorism – the last being the contribution of one who is positioned to assume co-leadership of the nation, no less. Revolution is not about lining up behind the nearest available symbol. When a symbol does emerge however, we are still obliged to examine every aspect of what is fortuitously on offer, and continue to guard our freedoms every inch of the way.

“Before I take myself off for – well, next port of call – the final word goes to a favourite maverick, propagated even as he matched his words by action.
I suspect that in this instance we find ourselves on opposite sides of the strategic fence – that is democracy. This now coopted watchword of his formulation remains apt, applicable to all who strive for authentic social transformation: Your mummu done do!”

Assaults on Soyinka for criticizing Datti Yusuf Baba-Ahmed for demanding that the Supreme Court decide in the party's favor, the writer added, vindicate his earlier claim that fascism was gaining ground in politics.

He declared, "It appears that the Republic of Liars' streets and sewers are currently clogged with a record discharge of hazardous sludge from our infamous smut factory. It serves to Accurately demonstrate the point that caused the avalanche! Fascism's political nascent seeds have clearly grown into mature plants.

"A fearful atmosphere is developing. The inability to consider constructive criticism or even different viewpoints on the same topic has evolved into a badge of honor and testament to one's dedication. Truth is ultimately at risk, and at the most fundamental level of social convention, parties to a dispute are not allowed to intimidate the arbiter, try to influence the conclusion, or question the neutrality of the arbiter without a valid reason before the hearing has even started.

NNC Refute allegation over Peter obi's Leaked phone call

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has refuted allegations that it was responsible for the recent leak of the telephone audio conversation between Peter Obi, the candidate of the Labour Party for the February 25 presidential election, and Bishop David Oyedepo, the general overseer of the Living Faith Church.

Peter Obi's spokesperson, Valentine Obienyem, has accused NCC of leaking the clip in which the Labour Party candidate for president was heard pleading with Oyedepo to mobilize Christians in support of him before the 2023 election.

“I heard they set up a Committee made up of some Communications experts, headed by our prodigal brother from Nnewi. They are reviewing all calls Obi made in the last three years, and especially now to see if he mentioned Interim Government or anything that will make them prosecute him for treason when and if they take over,” he said.

Although it omitted to specifically mention the Obi/Oyedepo audio file that was released, the NCC, in an apparent response to the allegation, disputed the claims in a statement by Reuben Muoka, its Director of Public Affairs.

The NCC further stated that it is prohibited from "tracking" or "leaking" the telephone conversations of any individual by the Act's operating rules and other current regulations in the nation.

Nonetheless, NCC stated that it takes the accusations seriously and has informed the appropriate security agencies for a thorough investigation and appropriate action.

“The Commission restates its commitment to discharge its responsibilities to the Nigerian people in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; the NCA 2003; and other extant Laws of the Federation; and global best practices.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Commission denies these allegations and advises the public to disregard them.

Full statement below:

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has been inundated with enquiries by the media on allegations of telephone “tracking” and “leakage” made against the Commission by some individuals and groups in the social and alternative Media.

The Commission wishes to make the following clarifications:

       i.            The Commission denies the allegations in their entirety.

ii.            By the provisions of the Nigerian Communication Act (NCA) 2003 and other extant Laws of the Federation, the Commission does not and cannot “track” nor “leak” telephone conversations of anyone.

iii.            The Commission has reported the allegations, which we take seriously, to relevant security agencies for proper investigation and necessary action.

iv.            The Commission restates its commitment to discharge its responsibilities to the Nigerian people in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; the NCA 2003; and other extant Laws of the Federation; and global best practices.

For the avoidance of doubt, the Commission denies these allegations and advises the public to disregard them.

Peter Obi and Bishop Oyedepo phone conversation leaked

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP) in the recently held election, finally spoke up about a contentious claimed phone call he had with Bishop David Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church (a.k.a winners chapel).

Once a rumored recording of a conversation between Obi and the famous cleric surfaced on social media over the weekend, there were conflicting views.

Obi allegedly told Bishop Oyedepo that the 2023 presidential race would be a "religious war" and begged the well-liked Pastor to assist him turn out Christian voters.

Lai Mohammed, the minister of information and culture, also charged Obi with encouraging violence among Nigerians in response to the results of the presidential election.

We Have Been Abandoned, NYSC Members In COVID-19 Isolation Centre Raise Alarm

Some National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in Jigawa State who allegedly tested positive for COVID-19 have allegedly been abandoned at the state’s isolation centre.

According to the corps members who are currently under quarantine at Rasheed Shekoni Specialist Hospital, Dutse, they have been in the isolation centre for 14 days, even though they showed no symptoms.

“We were to return to camp on the 15th of this month but they conducted COVID-19 test and said we were positive.

“We have been in the isolation centre for 14 days now without showing any symptoms. The pain of celebrating Christmas here can’t be described; they said Jigawa State doesn’t adopt the method of releasing COVID-19 patient after 14 days without symptoms,” one of them said.

The Jigawa State government had on December 15, 2020 announced it discovered eight new cases of COVID-19 among members of the NYSC posted to the state.

You’re Not God So I'll Give You Fire For Fire, Fani-Kayode Replies Pastor Bakare

The war of words between a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, and a Senior Pastor of the Citadel Global Community, Lagos State, Tunde Bakare, does not seem like it will end soon as the ex-minister has asked the cleric to respond to the questions he had raised earlier about his (Bakare’s) alleged ugly past.

Fani-Kayode noted that though he had an ugly past and was troubled over 30 years ago in Ghana, he was not ashamed of it, and was ready to answer Bakare "fire for fire".

Bakare had on Tuesday dared Fani-Kayode and the spokesperson for Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, Mr Yinka Odumakin, to expose his "supposed ugly past and feel free to publish it."

Bakare had for the first time reacted to the statements he made about a former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, saying that Fani-Kayode was in the grip of Satan when he (Bakare) ministered Jesus Christ to his mother in the recent past.

Earlier, Fani-Kayode had on Monday called out Pastor Bakare over the accolades he showered on the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Tinubu, noting that he did not know "who was dragging Bakare's balls."

But in a statement he personally signed on Tuesday, Bakare dared Fani-Kayode to expose the supposed ugly past he (Bakare) had.  See Also Politics Expose My Ugly Past Over Tinubu Comment, Pastor Bakare Dares Fani-Kayode, Odumakin

To this, Fani-Kayode replied in another statement, "Yinka (Odumakin), tell Tunde Arewa that I only asked questions. I made no assertions and indulged in no falsehood. I simply asked him to clear the air. Can't we ask questions? Is he God? Why is he so upset? Why can't he just answer the questions rather than get his knickers in a twist?

"In any case, why is he sending you to me? If he is a man, let him reach me himself and not send you to me. I do not react well to threats and you are not his messenger. If he has anything to say to me, let him say it. I am waiting. And I will respond to him fire for fire.

"As for my past, he can say what he likes. Nothing is hidden. I have given my testimony publicly many times, including before the Nigerian Senate and I have always said that I am a living manifestation of God's mercy and grace. Everyone has a past. No one is an angel, including him.

"I was troubled 30 years ago. I went to a Bible school in Ghana. God delivered me and my life was never the same again. End of story. That is my testimony and it is a great and miraculous one. That is why I am a believer.  That is why I am so proud of the God that I serve."

Fani-Kayode added that if the devil wanted to "use my past against me, I will use his future against him. Let God judge." See Also Opinion Who Is Squeezing Bakare's Balls? By Femi Fani-Kayode

Fani-Kayode had said, "On October 28, 2019, Pastor Tunde Bakare said the following, ‘Tinubu will give account for all his deeds. He should not be seen as a generous man; he is an integral part of the rot in Nigeria.’

"Curiously, just one year and two months later, on December 20, 2020, the same Tunde Bakare changed the music and said the following about the same man.

"He said, ‘People should see Tinubu as a Yoruba hero, he shouldn't be vilified. Like Jephthah the Gileadite, he has fought many battles on behalf of the Yoruba people and won despite his rough beginning and God does not need anybody’s permission to put such in his hall of fame despite their past deeds and ancestry.’”

“Is he being blackmailed? Are his balls being squeezed by a hidden hand? Is there a deep secret somewhere that we know nothing about and that they are dangling over his head like a sword of Damocles?

“Could this volte face have been motivated by the fact that an unsavoury event which allegedly took place in 1990 in the life of the pastor was about to be exposed by the Tinubu camp? I’m not making any allegations here: I’m only asking a question.

“Again, could it have anything to do with an allegedly ugly situation with a bank whose ownership recently changed hands?” Fani-Kayode further said.

Similarly, the Afenifere spokesperson described the accolades Bakare showered on Tinubu as displeasing.

In his column in a Nigerian newspaper, Odumakin wrote, “It is the very height of the abuse of the rostrum for a pastor to say to us no matter how God-forsaken the country has become that if somebody is accused of being a thief, the rest of us should go and become thieves as well.”

Alleged Assault: Justice Will Be Served, Seen By All, Says Deeper Life School Education Secretary

Deeper Christian Life Ministry has vowed to ensure justice is served in the case of molestation and assault on Don Davis Archibong, a Junior Secondary School 1 student of the Deeper Life High School, Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

The church has come under intense public criticism of its silence on the issue.

Reacting to this in a video on Tuesday, the Educational Secretary of the Deeper Life High School, Thelma Malaka, said the church had been quiet because there was an ongoing investigation into the matter.

According to Malaka, the police are currently investigating the matter and have invited staff members and students involved in the issue for interrogations.

However, she said the detailed interrogations had to be postponed due to the Christmas holiday but noted that a new date would soon be communicated by the police authorities.

She also enjoined the public to be on the lookout for the final reports of the investigation, saying it would be as transparent as possible.

She said, “This is a further statement to the first we shared to discerning observers on the allegation of molestation of a JSS 1 student, Don Davis at our Uyo campus, Akwa Ibom state.

"First and foremost, permit me to remind you that the office of the governor of Akwa Ibom State has taken over the investigation of the matter to ensure neutrality and dispassionate outcome; we appreciate the concerned efforts of everyone who has shown support for the investigation thus far.

"We reiterate that we will be transparent and that justice will not only be served, it will be seen by all that it has been served.

"Recall that we had earlier suspended the principal of the affected campus and initiated an investigation into the matter. We decided to restrain ourselves from further comments after the first update because we thought it is sub judice to comment on a matter currently under investigation.

"However, considering the potential part of this issue, especially on what we stand for, we are compelled to provide an early update before the final report is released by the government. The panel has sat and we have presented staff members and students of our school who have been mentioned in this particular case all through the period of investigation.

"We believe that the government will share the final report once the investigation is concluded.

"Secondly, as a parent myself, I do care about the mental and physical health of Don Davis who has been at the centre of this issue. Despite the intriguing undermining, we will continue to show our love to him within the limits permitted by his parents.

"We have unflinching confidence in our God, to resolve the issue such that at the end, the truth will ultimately prevail.

"Thirdly, I will like to let you know that the police are currently investigating this matter and we have been invited to share our own side of the story, the detailed interrogation was however adjourned due to the holidays.

"We believe that a new date will be communicated as soon as possible by the police authorities.

"Finally, we would like to restate that Deeper Life High School stands on the core values of integrity and uprightness and will not attempt to cover up any immoral act under any guise.

"We enjoin the public to be on the lookout for the final report as will be released by the appropriate authorities soon."

Eleven-year-old Don Davis was allegedly assaulted and starved by the senior pupils of the school. The pupil’s mother, Deborah Okezie, had cried out to Nigerians, pleading for help to get justice for her son who had been molested by his senior students and starved consistently at the Uyo Campus of the school despite the full payment of school fees.

She said she had gone to pick him up from the school on a Friday but noticed that he was sick and had not been attended to. The mother also alleged that she noticed her son was not able to sit properly, which prompted her to check his buttocks. From the look of his anus, Deborah said her son had been sexually molested.  This was said to have been confirmed by doctors at the hospital where Don Davis was taken.

SIM Registration: NIMC Issues New Guidelines For National Identification Number Applicants

The National Identity Management Commission has issued fresh guidelines for applicants to obtain their National Identification Number (NIN).

Kayode Adegoke, the spokesman for the commission, in a statement on Tuesday titled, ‘NIMC Adopts Booking System For NIN Enrolment,’ urged all applicants to use face masks, maintain social distancing and wash their hands while at its centres across the country.

The statement further reads, “Mindful of the second wave of the COVID-19 which continues to severely affect public health and cause unprecedented disruptions, the Commission wishes to announce that it has adopted a couple of measures to contain the spread of the virus whilst ensuring its services to Nigerians are not entirely interrupted.

“Effective December 30, 2020, attending to applicants would be based on Booking System. For Bookings, applicants are to visit any of the NIMC Offices closest to them during stipulated business hours (9am – 1pm).

“Once admitted into the office, a Number-Issuing queue management system will be in place to ensure orderliness and strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols.”

Several Nigerians had on Tuesday gathered at the offices of the commission in Lagos and Abuja, to register for their National Identification Number (NIN).

Several people who gathered at the offices flouted COVID-19 protocols put in place to check the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

It was observed that the majority of them did not use their face masks and physical distancing was not observed.

The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Communications and Digital Economy, had initially issued a two-week ultimatum to all telecommunications operators in the country to block all Subscriber Identification Modules (SIMs) without National Identification Number.

It later extended registration for NIN by up to six weeks, from December 30, 2020 to February 9, 2021

A statement jointly signed by the Executive Vice-Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission, Umar Danbatta; and Director-General, National Identity Management Commission, Aliyu Aziz, said, “Based on the endorsement of the Federal Government of Nigeria, the following resolutions were made: Three (3) weeks extension for subscribers with NIN from 30th December 2020 to 19th January 2021; and six (6) weeks extension for subscribers without NIN from 30th December 2020 to 9th February 2021.”

Family Seeks Release Of Son's Corpse Killed In Police Custody, Demands N50m Compensation,

The family of Godstime Akugbo who was allegedly killed while in the custody of the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Rivers State police in 2007 have asked the Judicial Commission of Inquiry sitting in the state to make the police produce the remains of the deceased.

According to the family, they need to give the late Akugbo a befitting burial.

The family also demanded N50 million as compensation for the alleged killing of Akugbo.

Michael Akugbo, elder brother of the deceased, who petitioned the panel, said the late Akugbo died in detention a few days after he was arrested by the police in October 207 on spurious claims that he was in possession of marijuana.

"We want the panel to help compel the Nigeria Police to release my brother's corpse to us. We also want the perpetrators of the heinous crime against my brother to be brought to justice. Also, we want the Nigeria Police to pay us compensation of N50 million," he said.
